OUR FOUNDING FARM

What is unfolding on this land is a dream taking shape in real time.

A certified Biodynamic farm in Sebastopol, California is the beating heart of Laurel Skin — a place where plants, people, and purpose come together. Separate from our HQ Barn in Petaluma, this six-acre farm is where dozens of the herbs, flowers, and botanicals in our line are grown, tended, and hand-harvested.

TAKING ROOT

Where Our Story Begins

Fifteen years ago, Laurel first stepped foot on this land to pick up a simple Calendula order. What she found moved her to tears — rows of Lavender, Rose Geranium, Calendula, and towering Cedars and Redwoods standing guard around a vibrant, medicinal herb farm.

This land has been farmed biodynamically and regeneratively for three decades, long before “regenerative” became a trend, and long before Laurel Skin existed.

In 2025, a dream long in the making came full circle. Laurel and Eric were given the opportunity to live on the farm and learn from the same master farmer elder who has grown their ingredients for all these years – ensuring that this place, and its wisdom, would continue into its next generation through Laurel Skin.

This land has long been a part of our sourcing story, but is now becoming so much more — a deep, living commitment to whole-plant skincare rooted in place, soil, and reciprocity.

regenerative farming

A Mature Ecosystem

This farm is unusual because it is fully alive. For more than three decades, it has been tended biodynamically, allowing the soil, wildlife, insects, and microbial life to return and thrive.

Regenerative farms like this take close to a decade to rebuild their ecosystem. Here, that work has already been done. The land hums with life — hawks circling overhead, pollinators returning season after season, soil rich with microbial activity that actively heals and replenishes itself. This is what makes the farm so rare: regenerative is not a trend we are subscribing to – it’s a way of life we have long embraced since Laurel Skin began.

meet eric

Steward of the Land

Eric is a quiet engine behind the farm — Laurel’s husband, land steward, and the person you’ll most often find with soil on his boots and talking your ear off about hydrologic cycles and what the bees are doing.

After a long career in luxury hospitality, he left that world to follow a calling that now has his hands firmly in the dirt. You might find him talking to the chickens or in the east orchard planting too many fruit trees.

Under the guidance of a master farm elder, Eric stays busy with:

• Soil health and compost
• Pollinator habitat support
• Hydrosol distillation
• Seeding and harvesting of medicinal herbs
• Regenerative water practices and irrigation
• Helping with the orchards, fields, and the ever-chatty chickens
